Dear Club Members,
We hope that this correspondence finds you and your families all well and safe…
News coming out of Monday’s governmental dossier regarding the first phase of restarting society following the COVID-19 lock down highlighted legislative permission for the general population to spend longer periods of time outdoors from Wednesday 13th May. Alongside references, permitting travelling to destinations, sitting in parks and playing various outdoor two person sports such as tennis & golf, a one liner was dropped in regarding “cricket nets.”
The extract in question reads, “So one on one sport with someone outside your household, such as tennis or cricket nets, will be allowed provided participants adhere to social distancing rules.”
As much as the club’s committee welcomes this news and we do anticipate greater clarity from the ECB in the immediate future (as of Tuesday 12th), we must formally announce to all;
1. Recreational Cricket in all forms of practice and play remain suspended until further notice…
2. In acknowledging this eventual change in policy and upon welcoming club members to use the club’s grounds for exercise and in particular the use of the cricket nets, we cannot condone any usage that does not comply with the latest conditions of outdoor play. Please do not meet in groups of more than 2 if you are meeting a person who is not of your household and upon meeting, please do your best to adhere to the 2m social distancing condition.
Calmore Sports CC is an ECB affiliated club, one that has received a Government/ECB grant of late to appease the current financial challenges that COVID-19 has brought. For us as a club to take this financial aid, then have club members abuse government guidance would leave us very vulnerable. Please don’t put us in that situation.
To prevent unnecessary overcrowding and unnecessary travel we are bringing in a booking system to use the nets in 60 mins blocks. Mark Lavelle is the point of contact and should you wish to use the nets please message him in advance. This process will be activated in due course…
To reiterate, As things stand, recreational cricket in all forms of practice and play remains “suspended” until further notice – this is including using the practice net facilities. We await formal guidance to the contrary…
As soon as we receive an update we’ll pass on all and any news.
Stay safe everyone. All the very best
