Calmore Sports Club were delighted to be able to officially unveil the new pavilion clock on Saturday during the annual Vice President’s Day at Loperwood Park.

The clock, named in honour and memory of former 1st XI player David ‘Chick’ Chandler, who sadly passed away last year, was unveiled by his two brothers, Mike and Brian, alongside club President Steve Brandes and chair Pete Lavelle.

‘Chick’, who played for the club from 1965 until 1981 as a wicket-keeper and subsequently became the 1st XI umpire, was a regular at Loperwood Park until his sad passing at the start of 2023.

He would leave the club a sizable donation in his will and the clock was just the start of the work that the club will be putting in, through his stead.

The President told guests that Chick was a Vice President of the club himself which was one reason this event had been chosen to pay tribute to Chick, his life and his generous bequest.  He was a great friend and supporter of the club until his sad death last year and is hugely missed by us all.

Chair Pete Lavelle said following the unveiling, “It was wonderful to be able to welcome Mike and Brian to the club that their brother enjoyed for so many years and for them to be able to see the mark that Chick left to us.”

The Vice President’s Day, which coincided with the home 1st XI league game against Waterlooville that was sadly curtailed by the weather, saw some 70 people attend and enjoy lunch in the club marquee.  This was followed by a superb social event in the evening with “The Lovely Giraffes” playing live to the lively audience.

A wonderful day was had by all but the main memory being that of our great friend, David Chandler … Chick.
