Christmas time – a time for celebrating and remembering. A time to look back over the year that has passed with the new year appearing over the horizon.
And after the travails that tarnished 2020 forever more, 2021 will be one that will be remembered for all the right reasons at Calmore Sports Club.
A club on the rise, a club glistening in success, young players all making their mark, an unbeaten season for the club’s third XI with youth and experience joining in harmony to seal a wonderful triumph in HCL Division Five while the first XI, of course, only just missed out on promotion to the top table of local cricket but engrossed the local sporting scene with that amazing day at Lord’s to seal the National Village Cup in September – becoming just the third Hampshire club in its 50 year history to be the Village Champions.
Off the field, the club is also on a sound financial footing under the careful and watchful eye of Ollie Tull, after a number of years in the doldrums. And there is much anticipation for the future with the club still flying on Cloud Nine after the magical season on the field. There is plenty to be excited about as 2022 edges closer.
With it being Christmas and with the most memorable year in our clubs’ history coming to its end, Club President Steve Brandes and Chairman Pete Lavelle would like to send a message to the club membership at this special time.
Let’s start with the President …. “well, I’m not the Queen but I would like to wish all of our members a Merry Christmas and a Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. I’m sure we all hope that the measures being taken by the government, supported by the majority of the public, have the effect of bringing this dreadful pandemic to a halt so that we are all able to enjoy a safer 2022 both on and off the field.”
And now the Chairman …. “As we near the end of 2021 as a club I think we can reflect on what a great year it has been. All areas of the club continue to grow and develop.
“I would just like to take this opportunity to wish you all and your families and the whole Calmore family a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year but, as importantly, I wish for you all to stay safe.”
From all of us at Calmore Sports, may we wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a successful 2022 but, as both of our great men have said – please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all very soon for the start of another, much anticipated, year.
