WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF ‘UNCLE RANCID’

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF ‘UNCLE RANCID’

In the tenth in the series of profiles revealing what and who makes us enjoy playing or watching cricket, today we hear from a man well known around local cricket circles but fairly new to Calmore Sports …. Dom Ducellier.

If you would like to get involved, all players, past or present can give us their take on the sport, at Calmore Sports or otherwise – so please answer the 18 questions and email richard@calmoresports.co.uk.

Name: Dom Ducellier.

Nickname(s): Dommo, Double D, Stig, Uncle Rancid.

What sparked your interest in cricket: Dragged along to Northlands Road from two months old, never escaped!

Do you prefer the T20, 50-over, county or Test format of the game: Tests.

Cricketing hero: Steve Waugh.

Favourite current (professional) player: Ben Stokes.

Most admired/best player you have played with: Glenn Maxwell.

Most formidable opponent: Richard Hindley – could never work out where to bowl at him!

Who would you most like to be isolated with from Calmore Sports – and who wouldn’t you: Like to – Pra.  Not like to – Westy.

Favourite away ground: St. Cross.

Favourite/most memorable match you’ve played in: T20 final v Havant.  Jack Mynott hitting boundary off the last ball to win the match and James Hibberd running onto the pitch John Terry style in his tracksuit.  Also playing against Lashings and bowling against Gordon Greenidge.

Personal highlight/champagne moment: Five wickets in SPCL T20 Final against Lymington at the Ageas Bowl in 2014.

Funniest moment/s in cricket: I have a few!  (1) As a 19-year-old, I once turned up at Sarisbury rather hungover.  Inspecting the pitch early on in the baking sun, my body decided to reject the evening’s contents over the square.  I then slept through the whole innings before going out to bowl not knowing everyone had been questioning a suspicious patch just short of a length!  I duly turned a face at it and went about my day complaining they couldn’t prepare a decent track!
(2) Fielding at Hursley one afternoon, I ran after a ball.  As I slid to retrieve the ball, I farted.  A few balls later, a few lads questioned the back of my trousers.  It was quite obvious …. I had followed through! ?‍♂️
(3) Watching Pez mimic Charles from Liphook during the rain affected game where we fielded for six hours!

Best way to relax after the game: Beer.

Do/did you have any cricketing superstitions: Left shoe, left pad and left glove on first!

What will you miss most in cricket during this enforced break: Teas!!

Is there anything you’d change about the game: Not the sport itself, just earlier start times at club level to ensure earlier finishes.

If you could invite 3 cricketing celebrities (players, presenters, commentators) round for dinner, who would they be and why: Shane Warne – great character, lots of stories.  Freddie Flintoff – relive the Ashes!  Phil Tufnell – banter!
