Congratulations to Calmore’s overseas player for 2017 Jack Rutter, who completed a century for the first time in his career this weekend as his Brighton CC side moved up to third in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association South/East 1st XI table with a first-innings win over Mount Waverley.

Jack’s unbeaten 101 from 106 balls helped his side close on 350-4 in their 80 overs at the Brighton Beach Oval on Saturday, which was more than enough to win the game as Waverley batted through their 80 overs for 311-9.

He shared in a superb 185-run partnership with Englishman Charlie Lowen, who has played first-class cricket for Loughborough MCCU and also featured in Minor Counties for Wales and Herefordshire, who made 141 in 191 balls but it was Rutts’ innings, which contained six fours and two sixes that stood out.

He reached his ton with a punch through cover off the second-last ball of the innings to bring up his maiden three-figure score, but was glad that his skipper Ricky Damiano ran on to let him know he was close!

Speaking in Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper, Jack said, “I am glad he did come out and tell me I was on 91, I thought I was on 80”, he said.

“I was like, ‘Cheers man’.  I was sort of just cruising along, knocking around ones and twos and not really swinging for the fence or anything.  Jase McNally was at the other end and he said, ‘I’ll give you the strike and we’ll try to get you there’. Ended up doing it with a single and four ‘twos’ in the last over.  Was pretty lucky. I was pretty spent.  But, yeah, good feeling.  Completely unreal.’’

Despite bowling three overs for 25 in Mount Waverley’s reply on the Sunday, it was a match that Jack will not forget and his former team mates at Loperwood Park were full of congratulations this weekend.

Well done Jack, well played!  Make sure it’s the first of many …….
